I hope this can be fixed because it’s a HUGE problem for providers! And frankly it hinders patient care and potentially exposes patients to unnecessary medication side effects and duplicating treatment failures from the past. So, eCW support staff: if you’re listening, HELP!!!
There used to be a drop down list that you could click on to view all medications in the patient’s database and list them in alphabetical order. Clicking on this would pop-up a simple list in alphabetical order from top to bottom. This was accessed through either the Treatment Screen > Cur Rx, or through Hub > Rx. You would change the drop down from viewing medications by Date (default) to viewing them by Medication. And then click on the drop down that produced the comprehensive list in alphabetical order. You could scroll up or down the list and select an individual medication, and then only that medication and its past prescribing history would appear in the window. That is now gone. Of course, you can page through an alphabetical list of medications displayed in the window but this is EXTREMELY cumbersome and time-consuming from Hub > Rx (especially if you’re looking for Xanax and the patient has 30 medications in their history)!
Why does this matter? Because we frequently need to revisit prescribing history. For example, what if a patient is having a relapse of severe depression and remembers that they took something that was really helpful (or really unhelpful) in the past? Awesome! Pull up the comprehensive list and scan through it for antidepressants and then select them for more details - while reviewing and talking with the patient. What if you want to see if the patient has ever taken an antihypertensive medication? Same thing. Easy, clear, fast, effective. Just pull up the list and scan through it. This is still somewhat possible through the Treatment Screen. You can view by Medication and page through the list. But it’s not as easy. And what if you’re NOT in the Treatment Screen of a progress note? Previously, you would have used the Hub > Rx to look it up. Not anymore. It’s gone. Of course, you can change back to “Classic View” in My Settings and get similar functionality to what you now have in the Treatment Screen. But this is in 2000’s formatting and it’s 2021! So, we’re going to roll back to “Classic View”?! Come on!
Again, I hope that this is an oversight that can be easily fixed. Or, maybe I’m completely missing something - a setting or something, maybe? I don’t expect a lot from my EHR, but I DO expect to NOT go backwards!
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks! Sorry for the TLDR!
