Been trying to create an eCW staff account that should have read rights to Encounters, Claims, and Payments. Unfortunately, the permissions don’t seem to work as described. I know there isn’t a read only mode for eCW.
I’ve added
Accounts Lookup
Allow access to patient hub
Access Medical Record from Patient hub
Allow User to Access 11e
Claims
PrintProgressNotes
Unfortunately, even with these restricted permissions, the user will be able to edit demographics, claims, and payments.
Issues
Even though no demographics permission was enabled and (in eCW Web App) a pop up that states “You are not authorised to perform this operation” shows up, most demographic fields can be saved (which I don’t want).
There are three permissions for claims: Claims, Allow access to Claims Screen, and Restrict access to Claims screen. Yet, only the Claims permission does anything.
Once the user has access to claims, payments can be edited, even without enabling the Payments permission.
I’ve spoken with three eCW techs so far that don’t have a clue of why these permissions are functioning such as they are.
Has anyone else had a better way of restricting permissions? If any liability arises from providing more access than required due to way permissions are managed in eCW, can responsibility be transferred to eClinicalWorks LLC?
