Ok, this might be a confusing question, so I hope I can explain clearly. The short version is- is it possible to REMOVE a CPT code associated with a vaccine, and have there be NO CPT code associated with that vaccine? We (myself, sys admin, billing director) haven’t been able to find a way.
Here’s the problem- we have our in-stock flu vaccine associated with the version of the code 90686 associated with a state lot modifier. It is totally fine that this code with modifier drops down in billing when the vaccine is administered to someone <19 years old, because those codes are correct.
However, when the vaccine is administered to someone >19 years old, nurses currently have to delete the 90686 code associated with the state lot modifier, and search and select the 90686 code associated with the private lot modifier. Our billing director has explained to us that simply deleting and typing a new modifier next to the 90686 does not link the codes correctly in the background- a different version altogether of the 90686 needs to be selected.
Is there a solution to this extra delete/search/select step for nurses when the vaccine is administered to patients >19 years old? We think we would prefer to have no billing code drop down when the vaccine is administered so that nurses are prompted to select the correct code every time. But we are open to suggestions!
