To whatever eCW technician reading this : PLEASE don’t attempt to call me or create a ticket for me related to this.
I’ve been searching around the site and haven’t found anyone trying to print fax confirmation pages out of eCW. For all my clinics this isn’t really an issue, but I’ve got one clinic that is burning a lot of paper to print then fax. These are primarily for surgeries. Here are their major arguments for printing/faxing things that are already electronic:
1. While we can create Multi-doc packets for faxing out, we cannot attach a Progress Note to that package.
2. The staff takes the paper confirmation page the fax machine spits out and scans it into the patient’s chart. When the hospital/clinic calls saying “we didn’t receive the fax for John Doe”, the clinic refers to the patient’s scanned confirmation page. While fax resends happen weekly, this apparently happens once a month (where the staff member has to refer to a confirmation page to save their skin).
So for #1, as I was able to find some posts related, it looks like unless it is an Outgoing referral the progress note cannot be attached to other documentation for a fax. No big deal, it’ll just have to be 2 faxes. But for #2, what are your staff members doing to prove faxes went out? Printing a screenshot of the patient’s Fax Log? Is just viewing the fax log good enough for the Admin? Just checking to see if there is something obvious I’m missing, and how others deal with this.
