Hello all!
We currently interface with one lab and imaging center. We receive lab and imaging done at other places via fax (we use nextiva). We would like to attach these results to the order in the EMR.
Could people please share their workflow that works well for them. It seems pretty straightforward to do it if only one lab or imaging was ordered. However, we have not been able to figure out a good way to attach these results when more than one lab was ordered (e.g. CBC, CMP, Lipid) for a patient.
1. At the initial fax download of the results, there is an option to attach the result document to multiple orders. However, this creates multiple copy of the same results for the physician to review and also clutter the chart in the ‘pt doc’ section. If we only pick one order to attach it to, it leaves the possibility that part of the lab was never done by the lab. So, we would like to have the paperclip next to all the individual orders that have been reported to us so that in future, we can just look at the paperclip and know that it was done.
2. Labs fax us the results in parts thus creating sometimes 5 copies of the lab results with several combination of the results (CBC only, CBC+CMP, final copy with all 3 results). These duplicate the number of documents further.
I am looking for ways other practices are dealing with this problem. Direct interfacing with other labs is not an option at this time.
Thank you
