Our group took the most recent eCW version 11.52 update this past weekend (7/10/21). Like many, we are working to adapt to new workflows with the new script standard windows for Refills, etc.
In the new process we are forced to have height and weight documented in order to send a prescription. This forces our hand primarily for families who have only been seen via TeleVisit and may have not had the tools to collect height and weight during their visit.
Furthermore, height is only required for medications that are based on meters squared (like a chemo drug) making the code programmed into this portion of eCW extremely questionable and unlikely forced based on the new script standard.
In many cases we will not have height (or less frequently weight) on our patients but need to prescribe medicine. There is no way to get around this “mandatory” field forcing us to GUESS a height. This does not increase the safety or accuracy of the patient’s chart.
How are we supposed to send medications to our patients without fudging the chart?
I hope this also gets the attention of the eCW folks monitoring this forum and action is taken swiftly to add in the option to enter N/A or turn OFF the mandate.
