Hi, wondering what everyone’s training plan/documentation is for onboarding providers/staff, as well as training new features/new upgrades, etc? We are moving from v11.40.23 to v11.52.153 in a few weeks and that kind of jump is daunting, since I can’t wrap my head around all the bugs/fixes/new features, between those two versions.
Where I was prior to this group, we had a robust eCW training program for new hires and re-training when there were new features or new versions, or someone simply wanted re-training. Front Office received 1 1/2 days training to include 1/2 day of documentation management. Nurses received front office and documentation management as well and then a full third day of nurse training. Providers received one and half days or 3 half days, depending on their preference, sometimes older providers did better with 3 half-days to keep it shorter each day. Also the onboarding provider’s nurse would sit in on part of that training with them. Also everyone received Quality training and then of course, retraining and loads of information if we were upgrading, as to differences, new features, new workflows, etc. Everyone left the classroom with training manuals for their positions.
Where I am now, new users are given minimal training. Front office, case managers and nurses get a couple hours, if that, of watching a trainer move through eCW, but it is far from effective and thorough. I took on training the providers for the first couple years, because no one else was and I could see that being a disaster, but I had to put a stop to it, bc we have a trainer and my training days are way over. I’m the system admin and a clinical analyst, so I do develop workflows and “quick tips” and over the provider shoulder with any help, but support here keeps me more than busy, because….we are not giving thorough training. I’ve been trying to get everyone on board for a full training program since 2017, without much luck. We had a CIO that was all about implementing it and then left the company sort of abruptly. I know our trainer could be awesome (she just got certified for the second time as an eCW trainer) and could really make a difference, but that is what we have in place right now. We don’t even give users materials to take with them to look at later when they need reminders of how to work in eCW. Its been frustrating as I spend a great part of my day fixing mistakes, merging duplicate patients, and a ton of other mistakes. I’ve thought of going elsewhere, but I love this company with a passion and know this part of it can be a great deal better.
So after all that, what is your training plan for staff and providers? Do you develop your materials/manuals to give out at training? Do you use eCW University to help with training? (Personally I think it’s too generic and any training that is done in bits and pieces is never very good). I’m hoping that I can get some answers here that will make it easy to take to my admin team to help convince how much we need a solid training plan that encompasses the entire job duties these users are expected to do in eCW.
If you got this far, thanks for entertaining me!
