are there probs with changing internet providers if you are in the cloud?

If you have a cable modem interface and are in the cloud, but you are planning on switching to a faster fiber optic connection, are there problems with that if you are in the cloud?  Should we expect down time, or does ecw make that kind of move more seamless?
